As I first arrived in the UK to look at universities I had no clue what to expect apart from the things I read in the brochures. When I arrived at the University of Southampton and was shown around it soon became evident why the NOCS is one of the leading centres in the world. My opinion still upholds: Ocean and Earth Sciences at Southampton is all that it claims to be and one of the best choices I have made.

The opportunities are phenomenal. The mixture of theoretical and hands on learning is what I think makes this course so much fun and keeps it interesting.

I thought long and hard about why I wanted to study marine biology and in the end figured it was because I like fish and the sea but Ocean and Earth Sciences has opened my eyes to the vast world of marine biology. The opportunities are phenomenal. In my first week at University we got taken out on a boat and got to do some hands on marine biology and this level of excitement has not stopped. The mixture of theoretical and hands on learning is what I think makes this course so much fun and keeps it interesting. The best thing is that a lot of the lecturers are leading experts in their field and some of the nicest people I have met, which makes learning even more fun!

Studying at the University of Southampton has opened the door to a huge amount of opportunities, such as going to job fairs to talk to future employers and even an internship I completed in Namibia.

Southampton is a great place, bustling with students and nightlife so you never have an excuse to be bored. The city itself is not that big so everything is easy and quick to reach, especially the town centre from the NOCS.

Still only in my second year I am not sure what I want to do with my degree but hopefully I'll get a job surveying or go on to do a PhD. From past students I have met through the many clubs and societies, I have realised that there are so many options open to someone doing my degree.
