PhD student success at BGS BUFI Science Fesitval
Helen Miller, a PhD student at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, recently attended the BGS BUFI Science Festival 2011 (BGS University Funding Initiative) at the BGS headquarters in Keyworth (March 2011) and was awarded the 'Best Staff Poster Prize'.
Helen has been working on her PhD over the past 6 months, and is using sediments to look at late glacial and post glacial processes operating within Windermere and lakebed habitats.
She completed multibeam survey of Windermere in September 2010, and more fieldwork is planned for this summer, including ROV, grab sampling and sediment coring. Helen is supported by a BGS BUFI studentship at the University of Southampton, with additional project support from the University of Southampton, Environment Agency and CEH.
