We are pleased to welcome Professor Bess Ward who is visiting our Waterfront Campus, the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) from Princeton University to give the 20th Annual Charnock Lecture.

This 20th Annual Charnock Lecture marks the 20th anniversary of the Waterfront Campus, home to Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). A unqiue collaboration of research excellence.

The distinguished lecture series commemorates Prof Henry Charnock CBE FRS, the former Director of the National Institute of Oceanography and Head of the former Institute of Oceanography at the University of Southampton.

The title of Professor Ward's lecture is ‘Nitrogen cycling in the oxygen minimum zone’.

Professor Ward will present recent work from her laboratory that has helped resolve some of the mysteries of the pathways of nitrogen biogeochemistry in oxygen depleted zones including control over the nitrogen loss processes, and the production and consumption of nitrous oxide.

  • Date: Friday 9th October 2015
  • Time/venue: The lecture itself is scheduled for 4-5pm in the Charnock Lecture Theatre at NOCS (104/20)
  • Refreshments: Will be served before and a reception is planed for after the lecture
  • Parking: External visitors can be arranged through estates@noc.ac.uk.
