Our Careers Day is an annual event run by Ocean and Earth Science in collaboration with the University of Southampton Careers Service. The aim of the day is to engage our geology, geophysics, oceanography and marine biology students along with students from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences with key organisations relevant to their field of study, giving them opportunity to network and discuss potential career pathways. The event will be held at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, on Thursday 16th February 2023 and will begin at 10am and conclude at 2pm.

This LinkedIn Lab is an opportunity to receive support from a member of the Careers team to further develop your LinkedIn profile.  

LinkedIn is an increasingly important tool in presenting yourself online, so that you can network with other professionals and discover job and other opportunities.  It is important that before attending this session, you have 1. Created an online LinkedIn profile (please see our UoS Career Hub resources on LinkedIn to assist you in getting started) and 2. That you bring a device to the session that allows you to edit your profile in real-time.

CV's and Applications Workshop - 12:15-13:00: Presenter - Heather Pasero - Lab G1 166/21

This session is an opportunity to compare and contrasts CV's and Application Forms, learn how to target and prepare your applications before submission and identify your own skills set, as well as learn about further support and resources to support your CV and applications.

Enterprise Talk - 11:00-12:00 noon: Presenter - Sean Larsen - Charnock Lecture Theatre 

Find out how the Student Enterprise Team can give you the skills, support and funding to launch your own business. Also hear from MSc Oceanography graduate, Lucy Harris who co-founded NETU Clothing whilst studying here at the University of Southampton.

ASK THE ADVISER - 15-minute advice sessions - 10:00-12:00 - Ray Beverton Room 044/11

You can use our Ask the Adviser appointments to discuss anything careers related. Topics can include:

  • Career options/planning and next steps
  • Feedback on a document such as a CV, covering letter or personal statement. Please ensure you upload a copy of your document when booking.
  • Interview/Assessment Centre/Online Test preparation
  • Finding opportunities, including internships and placements
  • Career options related to changing your course
  • Postgraduate study

These 1-2-1 sessions are bookable 7 days before via My Career Platform - Look out for the Blackboard announcement

IMPORTANT: Students just need to click on the link and log into MyCareer which will take you straight to the Ask the Adviser appointments. You will need to scroll past the other dates through to the 16th to see the appointments. From there, you can expand the list to see the appointments running on 16th February and the ones taking place at NOCS have ‘NOCS – 044/11’ listed as the location.
