Alistair Hendry is a postgraduate research student in coastal processes within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

His research examines the likelihood and spatial pattern of compound flooding. This is flooding which occurs from two or more sources (such as storm surges, waves, rivers and ground water). When these mechanisms combine, the consequences of flooding can be greatly magnified.

Assuming there is no relationship between flooding sources could lead to a dangerous underestimation of flood risk. It is therefore vital to assess the complex interplays between extreme coastal flooding mechanisms

2017 – Present: PhD – Coastal flooding, University of Southampton

2014 – 2017: Physical Oceanographer, Gardline Geosurvey Ltd
Provision of metocean data for clients in a variety of industries including oil and gas, renewables energy and coastal engineering. Tasks included data analysis; deployment and recovery of oceanographic equipment; technical report writing; software development; maintaining real time data systems and servicing instrumentation.
