Research interests

Hydrothermal circulation within the oceanic crust plays a critical role in the exchange of chemical constituents between the oceans and the inner parts of the Earth, as well as removing heat from young crust formed at mid-ocean ridges.

Extensive research has been conducted on the nature and vigour of hydrothermal exchanges down to the base of sheeted dyke complex in ocean crust formed at fast spreading ridges. However, principally due to a dearth of samples from intact ocean crust, only very little is known about deep hydrothermal circulation in the plutonic layers and its role in cooling the lower part of the oceanic crust.

In my PhD, I investigate hydrothermally altered rocks from the lower gabbro section of the Oman ophiolite in order to constrain the extent of alteration, temperature during alteration and its implication in removing heat while accreting oceanic crust.

Research Project: Hydrothermal cooling of the lower oceanic crust.
