Mr Christopher Auckland is a postgraduate research student with the Polar Oceans team at BAS looking at changes in Antarctic Bottom Water.

My research looks at changes in export of Antarctic Bottom Water from the Weddell Gyre and the forcing mechanisms behind these changes. Primarily focussing on the export of AABW through Orkney Passage and the role of wind forcing on the dynamics and properties of the water mass through the passage.

Research interests

  • Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction
  • Global Circulation
  • Polar dynamics
  • Abyssal Boundary Currents

Research project: What Controls the Warming of the Antarctic Bottom Water Supply to the Atlantic Ocean?
