Mr David Riley is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

I graduated from the University of Durham in 2016 with an MSci in Geoscience. My master’s thesis explored what could be ascertained about avalanche flow dynamics from collected density profiles. My bachelor’s dissertation modelled water resorption into pyroclastic deposits.

Research interests

• Numerical Modelling, particularly of fluid flow
• Gas Hydrates
• Multi-criteria analysis

My current research is coupling gas hydrate resource assessment with investigation into the potential social and environmental effects of any development.

Research project: Assessing the variability of Arctic hydrate exploitation

Supervisors:

Prof Tim Minshull
Dr Hector Marin Moreno
Dr Marije Schaafsma

Affiliation: Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI)/SMMPG
