Miss Elizabeth Marsden is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

2011-2015 MChem. Chemistry, University of Southampton, First Class Honours

3rd year project: Ionic Liquid as Electrolytes in Lithium-Air Batteries: a Study of Oxygen Diffusion and Solubility
4th year project: Investigating the Selectivity of the Sonogashira Reaction

Research interests

Organic matter, mineral interactions and their role within the global carbon cycle.

I am currently focusing on the interactions between organic matter and clay minerals under different conditions. I intend to use this information to build a picture of the bonding mechanisms that are at work.

Research project: The role and implications of mineral associations in organic carbon preservation

Supervisors:

Dr Jessica Whiteside
Professor Martin Palmer
Dr Juerg Matter
