Miss Saskia R‎ühl is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

After the Coastal Marine Biology undergraduate (BSc) in Scarborough finished, I moved to Plymouth to take my pursuits of academic work further. Here I studied at Plymouth University and completed my MRes in Marine Biology in cooperation with Researchers from both the Marine Biological Association (MBA) and Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML). The focus of this degree was a research project of nine months, which for me was a study of ocean acidification and warming on juvenile intertidal molluscs which had previously been treated in a long-term multi-generational mesocosm experiment. After graduating I began working at the National Marine Aquarium for a few months as a biologist and diver, after which I started volunteering to do lab work at PML. Over the course of the next few months I was involved in several large projects (MERP, ANTfoce, etc.) and eventually officially contracted to complete the lab work. In September 2016 I started a SPITFIRE PhD at Southampton University in collaboration with PML under the supervision of Steve Widdicombe, Charlie Thompson and Ana Querios. My current research interests are sediment/water interactions and how sediment fluidics affect benthic communities and ecosystems.
