Mr Thomas Arney is a postgraduate research student in Palaeoceanography and Palaeoclimate, within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton, and the British Antarctic Survey.

PhD, Antarctic palaeoceanography: National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton and British Antarctic Survey

MSc, Oceanography: University of Southampton (2020)

BSc (Hons), Geology: Van Mildert College, University of Durham (2014)

Research interests

My PhD research concerns the early Pleistocene palaeoceanography of the West Antarctic margin, and evidence of collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

A major part of this research is analysing a sediment core from the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica using stable isotope stratigraphy and sedimentological and isotopic proxies.

Research project: Early Pleistocene palaeoceanography of the West Antarctic margin

Supervisors:

Steve Bohaty
Claus-Dieter Hillenbrand (BAS)
Paul Wilson
Richard Levy (GNS Science)

Funding: This project is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council as part of the INSPIRE Doctoral Training Partnership
