Miss Zoë Holbrook is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

Zoë completed her Masters of Marine Biology in June 2016 at the National Oceanography Centre with the University of Southampton. Zoë’s final year research was conducted at the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences at Tjärnö and Kristineberg in Sweden in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg. The focus of Zoë’s thesis was the distribution of the invasive Pacific oyster, Crassostrea (Magallana) gigas, along the west coast of Sweden under salinity stress due to Climate Change. Zoë is currently working towards a PhD in European native oyster restoration, and her work is contributing to a large scale project based in the Solent led by Blue Marine Foundation. Previous work has included helping set up a non-profit organisation (Love The Oceans) in Mozambique, and assisting the Fisheries Manager at the Rockbourne Trout (line and pole) Fishery, Hampshire.

Research interests

• Shellfish aquaculture/fisheries and molecular biology

Research project: Restocking the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis in the Solent; A model for ecosystem service restoration across Europe
