The University of Southampton
Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre SouthamptonPostgraduate study

Our world-class buildings such as the award-winning EEE building, interdisciplinary Mountbatten complex and the Life Sciences building have contributed to the University of Southampton’s status as one of the best learning environments in the UK. These facilities are a result of an investment of £200 million.

Key facts

The University provides a wealth of social, arts and leisure facilities for students.

Off campus, you will find all the transport, shopping and leisure facilities you would expect from a multicultural city with a population of over 200,000 people.

Wireless and networked high-speed internet access is widely available across all campuses and in all five libraries.

Ocean and Earth Science is strategically based in the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, on the Solent waterfront at the city's Empress Dock.

The National Oceanography Centre Southampton is the integrated collaboration between Southampton's National Oceanography Centre and the University of Southampton's School of Ocean and Earth Science. Both utilise the jointly-owned and shared facilities at the Waterfront Campus, allowing extended collaboration and expertise in research and teaching.

Buses run between our campus, the city centre and other parts of the University seven days a week, every 10 minutes (on weekdays).

The National Oceanographic Library at NOCS is a national resource for the UK maritime science community. Its wide range of services are available to all ocean and Earth science students and staff.

As a lab- and field-based discipline, ocean and Earth science has invested heavily in both land-based and seagoing facilities. You can find more details on the Research Facilities page.
