The Thermo Fisher Scientific ELEMENT 2XR is a high sensitivity double focussing ICP mass spectrometer operating at 3 mass resolutions and is capable of analysing most elements in the periodic table. The instrument has an extended dynamic range (9 orders of magnitude) and is able to measure elemental abundances down to ppq levels.
This instrument is used for analyses where resolution and sensitivity are important, for example metals in seawater, Cr in blood, or heavy metals in landfill leachate. It is particularly suited to the analyses of difficult matrix samples and problematic elements.
In addition to carrying out analyses to support research projects across Southampton University and through collaborations around the world, we also undertake bespoke analyses on behalf of commercial partners. We have a group of expert scientific and technical staff who are happy to engage in confidential discussions and provide quotes for interested users.
We are always looking to extend our research portfolio and welcome enquiries from potential collaborators, especially those seeking support for post-doctoral fellowships.
