One of the most important issues our students face is their future employability, and the University of Southampton places a strong priority on preparing our students for "life after graduation." We also recognise that once completing their degree, graduates offer a wealth of experience, which leaves them well placed to offer invaluable advice to the next generation of Southampton students.
After graduating from Ocean and Earth Science at Southampton, our alumni embark upon a range of exciting and diverse career paths. Because we integrate skills-based learning into our degree programmes, our students are well-prepared for their chosen career path, and are highly sought after by a wide range of employers.
-
Our alumni are highly employable. 63% of graduates are employed within six months with another 30% going on to further study. This meets, and in some degree fields exceeds, University averages.
-
Ocean and Earth Science graduates perform well in terms of the average salaries they receive once entering the world of world. For example, for undergraduates of the past 10 years, 80% earn over £25,000 a year and 29% earn over £55,000 a year, showing that a degree from Southampton is well worth the investment of time and resources.
-
Over 50% of our alumni are dedicated to coming back and helping current students, from attending our annual careers event, to giving careers talks and even providing industry placements for students. This means that you can benefit directly from the help and advice of graduates who have experienced the same degree route.
-
We have great links with important graduate employers in sectors such as oil and gas, mineral resources, environmental, nature conservation, surveying and research, as well as areas of increasing importance for our graduates such as engineering, teaching and finance-based roles, so we can guide you as you begin to investigate potential career paths.
