As part of this new generation of instruments designed for time-domain astronomy studies, the Astronomy Group of the University of Southampton (AG-UoS) and the Instituto de Astronomía of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (IA-UNAM) have joined efforts to develop OPtical TIming CAMera (OPTICAM), a new high-speed triple-beam optical imaging system for fast-variability astronomical observations. An instrumental system such as OPTICAM will open new areas of opportunity for both research communities which will benefit by accessing an instrument equipped with three high-sensitivity high-resolution state-of-the-art sCMOS cameras. OPTICAM is expected to be available as a common-user instrument for the 2.1 m telescope at the San Pedro Martir Observatory (OAN-SPM), in Mexico, which is among the best astronomical sites in the Northern Hemisphere.
