Researchers (Dr Philipp Thurner, Tom Jenkins and Dr Louise Coutts) are based in the Bioengineering Group, the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton (UoS). Here, in the Bioengineering Laboratory, bone tissue will be analysed using mechanical testing.
Members (Dr Nick Harvey and Prof Cyrus Cooper) of the Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit (LEU), Medical Research Council (MRC), University of Southampton based at Southampton General Hospital are also involved in the research.
Participants are to be recruited from the Trauma and Orthopaedic ward at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and hospital staff (Dr Nicole Moss, Mr Douglas Dunlop and Dr Mark Baxter) will also be involved in the research. Assessment of participants will also be undertaken in the Osteoporosis Centre, University Hospital Southampton. The Research and Development Department of the hospital are acting as sponsor for this study.
