Conference sheds light on artistic impact of Litvak Jews

Dr Claire Le Foll, from the Parkes Institute, co-organised the ‘Litvak Impact on the Arts’ conference, in partnership with the Lithuanian Embassy and UCL. The successful and high-profile conference was held on Thursday 30th November and explored the contribution of Litvak Jews to a range of artistic fields.

The programme opened with a concert by Michael Alpert on the evening of Wednesday 29th, and continued the next day with rich and varied papers.

In modern times Jews contributed markedly to the traditional fine arts of painting and sculpture, as well as music, photography, prose and poetry, theatre and architecture. Litvak Jews, in many respects, made extraordinary contributions to a plethora of diverse fields of creative endeavour.

The event was held in the Embassy of The Republic of Lithuania, London, and was well attended.
