Call for Papers: Multidisciplinary Approaches to Jewish/non-Jewish relations
Parkes International Summer Graduate Seminar
Multidisciplinary Approaches to Jewish /non-Jewish relations, 12-13 July 2018
The Parkes Institute at the University of Southampton (UK) is pleased to invite proposals for its first International Summer Graduate Seminar.
The Parkes Institute is one of the world’s leading centres for the study of Jewish/non-Jewish relations, with multidisciplinary scholarly expertise spanning from antiquity through to the present day.
Our summer seminar, which grows out of our lively doctoral seminar series, will include professionalisation talks and workshops, as well as opportunities for graduate students from around the world to present their research. Keynote speaker and cultural event to be confirmed.
We encourage applications from PhD students working on all aspects of Jewish history and culture. The study of the interactions between Jews and their neighbours across the ages is an inherently multidisciplinary undertaking, drawing on wide-ranging archival, literary, archaeological and cultural sources. We invite proposals reflecting on the perspectives that these diverse approaches bring to the study of Jewish/non-Jewish relations.
Please send proposals (maximum 250 words) and a short biography to 2018parkes@gmail.com by 4 February 2018.
Some assistance is available towards the costs of travel and accommodation. If you would like to be considered for funding, please include a summary of costs with your application. Students are encouraged to apply to their own institutions for funding wherever possible.
