Parkes Honorary Fellow Wins Major Doctoral Prize

The Parkes Institute is today pleased to announce that its Honorary Fellow, Dr Chad McDonald, has recieved an award for his doctoral thesis.

The University of Bristol's Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Bickers, announced Chad's award in a letter today.

Every year, the University of Bristol gives out prizes to the best doctoral candidate in each of its faculties. Chad was this year's winner for outstanding excellence in a doctoral dissertation for the Faculty of Arts.

In addition to a certificate of commendation, Chad also won a £500 cash prize.

In his letter, Professor Bickers congratulated Chad, and praised how his thesis "clearly demonstrates the effort and commitment you brought to your research and reflects great credit on you and your supervisors."

In addition to his doctoral studies at Bristol, which were co-supervised by the Institute's Professor Tony Kushner, Chad is also one of our Honorary Fellows, and has most recently launched James Parkes and the Age of Intolerance, a travelling exhibition promoting the life and work of the Reverend James Parkes himself.

This too lead to Chad winning another award for the Social History Society’s 2020 Public History Prize, which he received in July.

Last month, he was also Highly Commended in the 2020 PhD Student of the Year category for this year's FindAPhD Postgrad Awards.
