Date:
11 - 13 April 2011
Venue:
The Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies University of London London WC1

Event details

A conference organised in conjunction with University of Durham

What does being Jewish today mean in European countries such as Austria, France, Germany or the United Kingdom, and to what extent is this experience shaped by factors that lie outside the national context? These are questions to which younger Jewish writers and intellectuals themselves are searching for an answer. An international conference at the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies (London) will bring together experts in a variety of fields from Great Britain, other European countries, Canada and the United States of America for a three-day conference. In addition to about 30 academic papers, the conference will include a discussion with the Austrian filmmaker and essayist Ruth Beckermann at the Austrian Cultural Forum. This event followed by a reception will be open free of charge.

To book a place on the conference please contact Jane Lewin Jane.Lewin@sas.ac.uk, and for the film evening contact the Austrian Cultural Forum at www.acflondon.org For more information about Judaica Europeana go to www.judaica-europeana.eu
