‘The History and Culture of the Jews’ looks at subjects relating to Jewishness and Judaism whether historical, political, literary, philosophical, cultural or religious.
Taught by academics within the Parkes Institute, this course will be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about Judaism and Jewishness, or how different cultures and religions interact. From the Dead Sea Scrolls to the Holocaust, it will introduce you to the rich variety within Jewish history, and investigate developments within Jewish culture, focusing especially on relations with other groups both religious and secular. It is a subject area that not only deals with the past to understand where we are today, but is of fundamental importance to knowledge of inter-cultural issues that impact on today’s world.
The course will offer new content from previous years and we look forward to discussing this subject with you!
We have always had excellent feedback for our courses. For example, previous participants have said: “A fantastic course – thank you. It has increased my knowledge but above all given me a better understanding of Jewish History and Culture” and “These sessions are of enormous value and provide unique opportunities for discussion and deeper understanding”.
