Event details

The second and last event of ‘Jews and Performance’ will centre around the question of casting non-Jewish actors for Jewish roles. This issue has recently made headlines with debates being sparked around film, television and theatre in the USA, UK and beyond, with some giving it the name 'JewFace'. In this event we will aspire to examine this question in a nuanced way. Professor Sue Vice (University of Sheffield) will give a paper titled “'Casting and Adaptation in Television Drama: The Case of Ridley Road (BBC 2021)”, Parkes outreach fellow Uri Agnon will speak of discoveries made during rehearsals for his piece Antisemitism a (((musical))) and playwright and director Dr Sarah Sigal will share from her own experience working in British theatre.
