Southampton will mark the UK’s national Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day with a commemorative event organised by the Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations, University of Southampton and hosted by Solent University. For 2023, the University of Southampton and Solent University this year will mark the ‘Holocaust by bullets’ at Babyn Yar, Ukraine.

As part of this, the Phoenix Film Society and the Parkes Institute (University of Southampton) will be hosting a film screening of Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa's Babi Yar. Context (2021). The film will be introduced by Claire Le Foll and Graham Cole. This screening is free to attend.

We will also be hosting a roundtable discussion n the theme of 'Holocaust by bullets' and the ethical questions raised by the film at the Holocaust & Genocide Memorial Day commemorative event taking place the day before the screening, Wednesday 25 January.
