Speaker Biography
Bryan Cheyette is Chair in Modern Literature at the University of Reading. He is the editor of seven books and the author of Constructions of 'the Jew' in English Literature and Society (Cambridge University Press, 1993 and 1995), Muriel Spark: The Writer and Her Work (Northcote House, 2000) and Diasporas of the Mind: Jewish/Postcolonial Writing and the Nightmare of History (Yale University Press, 2013). His research interests include racial representations in nineteenth- and twentieth-century English literature, postcolonial literature and theory, diasporic literature, Holocaust Testimony, and British-Jewish literature. He has recently guest edited the journal Wasafiri on Jewish/Postcolonial Diasporas and is co-editor of volume VII of the Oxford History of the Novel in English on the British and Irish novel, 1940-2010 which will appear in 2015. He reviews contemporary fiction for the TLS, the Independent and the Guardian.
