From Things Lost: Forgotten Letters and the Legacy of the Holocaust

 

This talk will tell the story of a German-Jewish refugee and his extraordinary collection of letters, hidden in a garage in Johannesburg for over 40 years, including correspondence with a close childhood friend who became a Nazi.

Dr Shirli Gilbert, University of Southampton. is Co-Director of the Parkes Institute for Jewish/ non-Jewish Relations, and Associate Professor of History at the University of Southampton. Her most recent book is From Things Lost: Forgotten Letters and the Legacy of the Holocaust (2017).
