In this lecture, I will consider one of the most famous images of the medieval English Jewish community – that of Abigail, Moses, and Isaac, Jews of Norwich, on a tallage roll now in the National Archives, London. I will consider its historical and archival contexts, and offer new ways of reading it.

Professor Anthony Bale, Birkbeck, University of London. is a professor of Medieval Studies, and he has written widely on medieval Christian-Jewish relations, the history of antisemitism, and medieval English poetry and religion.
