The devil in the archives: the case of the Jews of Norwich, 1244

In this lecture, I will consider one of the most famous images of the medieval English Jewish community – that of Abigail, Moses, and Isaac, Jews of Norwich, on a tallage roll now in the National Archives, London. I will consider its historical and archival contexts, and offer new ways of reading it.
