Every year, the Parkes Institute delivers workshops, talks and lectures in local schools and colleges. We have given talks on subjects in Jewish History, Religion and Culture ranging from the biblical era to the Holocaust. We have partnership with a number of local colleges, but members of the Parkes Institute can give lectures and workshops in local schools on request. We work with teachers in History, English, Religious Studies and Sociology as well as others. Please do get in touch to discuss what would be useful for your students.
Each year we hold a summer school on an interdisciplinary Humanities theme.
The summer school is aimed at sixth forms and colleges throughout Hampshire and is open to students who plan to study Humanities subjects at University. The summer school is designed to give a taste of university teaching and to help to build on the academic skills needed at university. The summer school is also a good experience for those looking to enhance their personal statement.
Past summer schools have been on topics such as ‘Multiculturalism', ‘Jerusalem', ‘The Relationship between Cultures' and ‘Race and Resistance'.
