About

Dr Yanghee Kim is an Anniversary Fellow at the University of Southampton, in the Faculty of Medicine. Her research centres on the development of biomaterials and harnessing their potential for tissue regeneration. She has been involved in designing and chemically modifying scaffolds and hydrogels, evaluating them through in vitro and in vivo studies, and has contributed to publications in esteemed journals such as Nature Communications, Biomaterials, Biofabrication, Bone, and Advanced Healthcare Materials.

During her PhD studies at Kyoto University in Japan, Dr Kim concentrated on enhancing immune cell recruitment to tissue defects and modulating the immune cell phenotypes through drug delivery system to accelerate tissue regeneration process.

Since joining the Bone and Joint Research Group at the Centre for Human Development, Stem cells, and Regenerative Medicine in 2016, Dr Kim has involved in developing developing clay nanoparticles for stem cell-driven tissue regeneration funded by Dr Dawson’s EPSRC fellowship (Nanoclay group). Additionally, she has served as a produce and process development scientist for Renovos, a regenerative medicine spin-out company.

Dr Kim's current research focuses on modulating macrophage and stem cell responses to bioactive Nanoclay for bone regeneration, in collaboration with Kyoto University, Japan, funded by the MRC-AMED Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research Initiative grant.
