Public Engagement with Research

Engaging audiences from the stage

This session is aimed at doctoral researchers and staff who are expecting or would like to ‘get on stage’ and engage audiences with their research.

Two broad approaches for effective engagement will be covered: stage presence and performance; and audience participation.

At the end of the session attendees will be signposted to current opportunities at Southampton, from small, informal options such as Researchers’ Café and Science Room, to options with larger audiences such as Bright Club, Pint of Science, Café Scientifique and TEDx, and one-off shows/workshops (such as at festivals and to school groups eg through Ask the Expert and Learn with US).

Who is the course for?

Academic staff, research staff, doctoral researchers - from any discipline.  Experienced presenters should consider the shorter, advanced version of this training.

Pre-requisites: we recommend that you attend 'Introduction to Public Engagement with Research' first.

Led by

Dr Tony Curran, Public Engagement with Research unit
