ESRC Festival of Social Science 2017

The 2017 Festival of Social Science will take place in Southampton on 8-9 November. Over two engaging nights, research scientists at the University of Southampton will share their research and expertise into two challenging issues of our time: migration and ageing.

Have you ever wondered what social sciences research can tell you about the community we live in or the UK society as a whole?

Join us for a drink at the One-o-Four Kitchen & Lounge in Southampton to find out.

No previous knowledge is required, everyone is welcome. All talks, discussions and activities will be accessible to everyone.

Hope & hops: the science of society

Two nights, two major questions. Each night, three scientists will provide you with evidence-based answers.

We will have special guests, pub quizzes, hands-on activities and lots of prizes to give away.

These events will give you the chance to hear about and discuss the latest cutting-edge research investigations happening on your doorstep, while enjoying a drink at One-o-Four Kitchen & Lounge in the heart of Southampton.

Each event is FREE but registration is required through our Eventbrite account.

Location

The Festival will take place at One-o-Four Kitchen & Lounge (formerly Ebb & Flow) in the centre of Southampton. The venue is wheelchair accessible. A taxi stand and a cash point are situated just outside the doors. Bluestar, Unilink and First bus stops are in close proximity.

This free, informal event is organised by the three ESRC-funded Centres at the University of Southampton:

the Centre for Population Change (CPC),
the Administrative Data Research Centre for England (ADRC-E),
the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM).
