The University of Southampton
Public Engagement with Research

How to get involved

Events can target a wide range of audiences from young people, the public, third sector, business or government, and can be delivered in a variety of ways from public debates, conferences, workshops, interactive seminars, film screenings, virtual exhibitions etc.

Support for events at the University of Southampton is provided by Research and Innovation Services (R&IS) Impact Funding Team. The team manages the University of Southampton’s UKRI Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAAs). They work with colleagues across the University to support research and commercialisation strategies, to maximise and promote the impact of the University’ research.

If you are interested in speaking to the Impact Team about potential funding, please contact them by email: Impact@soton.ac.uk

The Impact Funding Team also manage the ESRC Festival of Social Science (FoSS). FoSS is a celebration of the social sciences that began life in 2002 as Social Science Week - a collection of around 25 events, mainly seminars aimed towards an academic audience. Over the years Social Science Week has grown to a much larger and more inclusive 'festival' of activities, aimed at policymakers, business, the public and young people. This year there are a variety of events planned to take place throughout the whole of November. If you are interested in running an event at this year’s ESRC Festival of Social Science, please contact the team by email: FOSS@southampton.ac.uk
