Public Health Ethics and Law: making a difference to communities

The Public Health Ethics and Law (PHEL) group brings local, national and international leadership to public health ethics, law and regulation. The group is directed by John Coggon and A.M. Viens. Their research in the field applies insights and understanding from law, philosophy and politics to questions in population health at national and global levels, and they are involved in multi-disciplinary projects across the world.

Education and Training

PHEL also runs educational programmes, with Professor Coggon and Dr Viens teaching public health ethics and law on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We also offer continued professional development and education courses to public health practitioners.

Centre for Health Ethics and Law (HEAL)

As part of the Centre for Health Ethics and Law (HEAL) in Southampton, PHEL promotes and welcomes engagement with scholars across disciplines interested in population and global health, as well as practitioners and policy makers.
