Hi, I'm Simon Nash and I studied BA Philosophy and Politics within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

Philosophy teaches analytical skills; how to use logic to break down argument and this is particularly useful in the business world.

Entrepreneur Simon Nash is already attracting attention in the business world with his environmentally-friendly bicycle lubricant Green Oil.

He came up with the idea while studying the humanities at Southampton. A keen cyclist, Simon was unhappy using traditional petrochemical-based lubricants which polluted the natural spaces where he liked to ride. He has now founded a company to make and sell the chain lube and other products at home and abroad.

He hails his choice of university degree as a major factor in his success: “Philosophy teaches analytical skills; how to use logic to break down argument and this is particularly useful in the business world.”

“My philosophy is clear. My revolutionary lubricant means no more guilt about cleaning off chain oil into the soil, riding in heavy rain, or even biking across streams.”

Green Clean, Clean Chain degreaser and Ecogrease have also been developed by the growing business, but Simon has not compromised on his eco-friendly credentials. Used bottles of Green Oil are bought back from customers and refilled, delivery are made in recycled cardboard boxes.

Simon believes his degree has been a considerable influence on his business: “Thinking creatively is a must for any business. That comes right back to Philosophy too.”
