Fiona Woollard awarded Mind Research Fellowship

Dr Fiona Woolard

Philosophy lecturer Fiona Woollard has been awarded a Research Fellowship by the Mind Association.

During the period of the Fellowship, which begins in September 2011, Fiona plans to develop further her defence of the Doctrine of Doing and Allowing, the claim that doing harm is harder to justify than merely allowing harm. Fiona will investigate whether that defence can be supported by, and provide support for, general ethical theories and explore its implications for our duties to aid distant strangers in severe need.

The competition for the prestigious Mind Research Fellowships is intense. Many congratulations to Fiona on this success.
