Great news about the employability of Southampton Philosophy graduates!

Employability at Southampton

Recent figures show that Southampton Philosophy students are going on to great things very quickly after graduating.

Among the full-time, undergraduate Southampton Philosophy students who graduated in 2012, 90% were either in work, due to start work, or in further study only six months after graduation!

Of the remaining students, 6% fall into the ‘Other’ category, which includes those travelling, volunteering, and the like.

Of those working full-time, 81% are in professional or managerial roles, with the majority earning in excess of £20,000 per year.

Our graduates’ job roles include finance and investment analyst, public relations manager, management consultant, teacher, marketing associate, and writer and translator, while the employers include Deloitte and Barclay’s Wealth and Investment Management.

Of course, a degree in Philosophy at Southampton is not just a stepping stone to a future career or to additional qualifications. Nonetheless, these figures strongly suggest that our programmes are giving our students the skills they need to succeed in an extremely demanding world of work, and that the employability activities which we offer are helping them to get off to a flying start.

The above figures are based on the known destinations of our graduates as revealed by the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey published last week.
