Workshop on Metaphysical Dependence in Ethics Event

In particular, philosophers have become interested in the role for a primitive, hyperintensional notion such as grounding in framing disputes and clarifying positions in a range of different areas of philosophical investigation. This renewed interest in metaphysical dependence promises to shed new light on questions in ethics and metaethics where dependence and priority have always played a significant role. In the light of some interesting recent work on the topic, this conference draws together philosophers working at the intersection of metaethics and metaphysics to discuss the possibilities for applications of the grounding debate to ethics and metaethics.

The workshop will be held at University of Southampton’s Avenue Campus, in room 1097 (building 65).

It will begin at 10:00 and end at 17:30, and will be followed by drinks and dinner.

The workshop is organised by Jonathan Way and Naomi Thompson. It is free and open to all, but please email Naomi to register by 15 September.
