Event details

Philosophy at Southampton will host a free online conference for 6th Form students and their tutors. This will involve:

  • A series of engaging and accessible pre-recorded talks by our lecturers. These will be hosted on a dedicated, password-protected website.
  • Students and tutors at participating schools and colleges will be able to access the site without having to sign up for an account.
  • They will then have the chance to view the videos and post comments and questions relating to each talk at any point in the week.
  • Our lecturers will post their own comments in response during the week and, at the close of the conference, create short videos in which they discuss the issues raised by the participants.

Moral Philosophy:

  • “Moral Responsibility and Alternative Possibilities”, by Dr Conor McHugh.

Epistemology/History of Philosophy:

  • “Wittgenstein on Moore’s Response to the Sceptic”, by Professor Genia Schönbaumsfeld.

  • “Possible Worlds”, by Dr Naomi Thompson.

History of Philosophy/Philosophy of Mind:

  • “Margaret Cavendish’s Critique of Descartes”, by Professor Daniel Whiting.

In addition, there will an optional talk on studying philosophy at university.
