Public engagement

Each year we hold a series of events aimed at bringing Philosophy to the wider public.

City Art Gallery Talks

Every year (normally, in the Spring) we run free talks for the public at Southampton City Art Gallery. Sadly, these talks are cancelled this year due to ongoing situation with COVID-19.

Royal Institute of Philosophy Branch

We are proud to be a branch of the Royal Institute of Philosophy. With the support of the Institute we host numerous activities which are free and open to the public. These include the annual Ethical Challenges Lecture, in association with the Southampton Ethics Centre, and series of seminars in which visiting researchers share their ideas and arguments in an accessible and engaging fashion.

Philosophy Café

Our highly successful Philosophy Café (run in conjunction with the John Hansard Gallery (now Studio 144)) ran from 2009-2014.

These events provide philosophical stimulation in a relaxed atmosphere for like-minded individuals where no previous philosophical experience is required - just an appetite for ideas. Click on this link to the archive page where you can hear recordings of past Philosophy Café talks.
