Hi, I'm Alex Wylde and I studied BA Philosophy and Politics within Philosophy at the University of Southampton.

I’d definitely recommend others to study on the course, the Philosophy department is really good. The staff are really friendly and there’s a cosy, family atmosphere which is great.

I started at the University doing History and Politics, and in my second year I changed to Philosophy. I found I was spending more time reading about Philosophy, then I was about History, so I thought ‘why not change?’. The process was quite straight forward, and I went directly into the second year of the Philosophy course. I had a chat with the lecturers and they were very supportive.

I knew Southampton was a good university, a Russell Group university, so it was the academic reputation that really attracted me.

One of my highlights was being in halls in my first year. It was really close-knit – everyone knew everyone.

I’d definitely recommend others to study on the course, the Philosophy department are really good. The staff are really friendly and there’s a cosy, family atmosphere which is great.

I’ve decided I want to become a professional Philosopher, so next year I’m doing a Masters at Kings College London, and a PhD after that.

Each lecturer here has very a different teaching style, some are much more interactive and others take the old-fashion approach – they’re such good lecturers they don’t need anything else to hide behind.
