Lecturer in International Security and Strategy. My current research interests focus on decision making, climate change and catastrophic risks.

Steve Chisnall moved into his current appointment in April 2016, having been the Director of Strategy and Planning since November 2012. Prior to joining the University he had a successful career in the Royal Air Force, including posts as a Station Commander, Deputy Director Defence Policy in the MOD and a secondment to the Cabinet Office. His operational experience includes Northern Ireland, the Middle East and South Asia. He retired from the RAF in 2008 in the rank of Air Vice-Marshal, having been Deputy Commandant of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. Prior to joining the University he worked in the private sector helping start-ups. He was a visiting Professor to the War Studies’ Department at King’s College London where he focused on strategy and leadership.
