Published: 22 February 2012

Dr Christopher Holmes, lecturer in political economy, is working on the application of the thought of Karl Polanyi to the pre- and post-financial crisis global economy.

As part of this strand of Dr Holmes' research, he recently spoke at an international conference entitled 'The world between crisis and change' which tackled various issues surrounding the ongoing Eurozone crisis and broader questions about global financial regulation. The conference, jointly funded by the Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy and the EMES European research network , was held at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers in Paris on the 15th and 16th of February. Dr Holmes presented a paper at a plenary session entitled 'Marketised social protection and marginalism's second 'economistic fallacy''.
