Facilitating Gender Representation in Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures

Published: 7 December 2020

The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Network has published their new Gender Sensitising Parliaments Guidelines. Dr Jessica Smith from the Department of Politics and International Relations worked on producing the guidelines alongside Professor Sarah Childs from Royal Holloway, University of London.

The framework is designed to aid Parliaments across the Commonwealth in identifying priority areas to become more effective gender sensitive institutions. The guidelines take into account contemporary challenges facing women in legislatures, including the importance of parental leave for MPs, sexual harassment and bullying and violence against women in politics.
