Politics and International RelationsPart of Economic, Social and Political Science

Politics and International Relations at Southampton has an excellent reputation in offering a range of innovative undergraduate degrees. All our programmes have a strong common foundation in politics and social research skills and our range of courses allows each student to specialise in the subjects of most interest to them.

We are engaged with the world's problems, and analytical in our approach to them; and we are ethical in how we believe we should deal with those problems. These values underpin our curriculum.

You will be joining a research community that aims to shape our shared futures. We believe our classrooms are part of our research community because they are engaged in the world we live in, the problems we confront and the issues we must address. We will challenge you to critically address and understand the issues and problems we face as a society, and to develop dynamic and innovative responses to those problems. To be a student of politics is to be committed to understanding our political condition, explaining how we got here and shaping where we go.

We encourage you to express yourself and your opinions in a safe environment, and in the knowledge that support and guidance is always available to you throughout your studies.

Our undergraduate students follow flexible course programmes that allow you to study what most interests you, as well as have opportunities to work with policymakers and practitioners on work placements and study abroad.
