Foundation year

The University offers foundation year programmes for students who are not eligible for direct entry into our undergraduate degrees.

Students practicing with instruments

These one-year programmes are designed to prepare students for entry to honours degree programmes if they have not studied the appropriate subjects at A level or equivalent standard, or if they are an international student.

International Foundation Year

The International Foundation Year (IFY) is suitable for EU and International students wishing to study Law, Arts, Business, Humanities or Economic, Social and Political Sciences. It forms the initial year of a four or five year undergraduate degree. By the end of the International Foundation Year students will have gained an introduction to the key concepts of their chosen degree subject, as well as the language skills needed for successful undergraduate study. Successful completion of the International Foundation Year leads to automatic progression to a student’s chosen undergraduate degree.
