The ICURe programme supports university research teams with commercially-promising projects. Support and funding of up to £50,000 will be available to selected teams that are seeking to determine whether there is a business opportunity for research.

ICURe funding supports three to six months of intense customer engagement and business model assessment. Early Career Researchers take on the role of entrepreneurial team leaders, engaging with prospective customers, partners and competitors, and taking steps to validate the commercial potential of their research.

Applications for the ICURe programme should be made by early career researcher (ECR) with the support of a Principal Investigator (PI) and a Business Mentor (A Business Mentor can be appointed by the ICURe team where necessary).

Commercialisation staff from SETsquared universities (University of Bath, University of Bristol, University of Exeter, University of Southampton and University of Surrey), along with SETsquared incubators, will work with each team to develop a business model and determine the best route for commercialisation. Those teams with suitable business models may be fast-tracked into creating a start-up company. Innovate UK (formerly the TSB) will also provide support and guidance as appropriate for further funding of early-stage company development.
