There are five learning paths:
All Staff – build essential skills, broaden your networks and shape your career at Southampton.
Line Managers – develop the confidence, tools and capability to support your teams effectively day-to-day.
Leaders – strengthen your ability to set direction, inspire others and lead change in a complex environment.
Team Leaders & Supervisors – gain practical support to set direction, motivate colleagues and grow as a people leader.
Peer Leaders – enhance your influence, collaboration and leadership impact without formal management responsibility. (Coming spring 2026)
Whether you’re developing new skills, stepping into leadership or navigating change, you’ll have access to learning that is practical, relevant and grounded in real workplace challenges.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Facilitated Workshops focussed on issues that matter most, from communication and feedback to effective one- to-ones.
- On-Demand Learning and Toolkits including access to LinkedIn Learning and Mindtools, providing practical guidance whenever you need it.
- Self-Assessment Tools to support reflection, goal-setting and ongoing development.
- Community Connections through Teams and live sessions, creating space to learn alongside colleagues and share experiences.
- Mentoring a relationship which helps individuals through guidance and support from someone more experienced. The University is committed to continuous professional development (CPD) and supports mentoring as part of this. There is lots of information and resources available on our internal site to support with setting up and managing schemes and developing skills for effective mentoring relationships, which you can find here.
Inclusivity underpins all our learning. Dedicated development opportunities support staff to build inclusive behaviours, create welcoming environments and contribute to a strong sense of belonging across our community.
