10 ways to improve your employability

Employability Tips from the 'Employability Guide', PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2013 (www.pwc.com/uk/employability)

1. Coach and develop yourself and others – evidence-based personal development.

2. Communicate with impact and empathy – evidence of effective spoken and written communication.

3. Be curious: learn, share and innovate – life-long learning and evidence of exploiting learning opportunities.

4. Lead and contribute to team success – academic team-work, clubs, societies, and reflection on what individual has brought to team and achieving outcomes.

5. Build and sustain relationships – evidence of “getting along” with others and maintaining relations with “all sorts of different people”.

6. Show you have courage and integrity – evidence of honesty, integrity, professionalism, and punctuality.

7. Manage projects and budgets – evidence of workload management, managing funds, organising events.

8. Be open minded, practical and quick to adapt – being able to “think on your feet” and adapt to changing situations.

9. Build and use commercial and technical know-how – seek opportunities to develop expertise, review experience to work out what has been learned, and how to apply that learning.

10. Being passionate about client service – evidence of having gone above and beyond expectations, for example, in job, society, or sports club.
