Hi, I'm Louise-Ann Leyland and I studied Research Methods in Psychology within Psychology at the University of Southampton.

The fact that Southampton was a good university for research, particularly in Psychology, was very influential in my decision to study here and I was also impressed with the campus.

A visit to the School of Psychology while she was at college convinced Louise-Ann Leyland from East Sussex that she should study at the University of Southampton. After her first degree, she chose to stay on to take a master’s in Research Methods in Psychology and is now embarking on a PhD funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council.

“The fact that Southampton was a good university for research, particularly in Psychology, was very influential in my decision to study here and I was also impressed with the campus and its landscapes; so many universities I visited just seemed to be made of concrete.”

After studying third year undergraduate modules such as ‘ambiguous scenes’ which covered visual and depth perception, she decided to continue with her research through taking higher degrees: Louise-Ann’s PhD research investigates how people who have had a stroke perceive the visual world.

“Self-motivation is an imperative quality in order to make the most of my studies,” she comments.
